Details from docstyles docstyles APA/CMS/MLA DocSets Research styles age, and as they do so they become cluttered with minutiae, trivial nuances that add little to clarity. APA style insists that data is (only) plural, while datum is singular, and has weird rules for presenting some numbers. MLA style tends to overreach, adding undue complexity to quotations or to references to web sources. And MLA doesn’t tell all, adding headings and subheadings to articles published in its own journal (PMLA) that are nowhere described in its handbook. Doc’s advice is to get the basics right (as covered in the Quick Reference and Quick Study), focus on content, and skip the rest. But if you are curious to see what Doc finds curious about these styles (or simply want to buy him a brew or two) then explore the docsets. You'll get passwords for the Docsets immediately, confirmed later by email.
